Alla gipsoteca di San Paolo all'Orto alcuni preziosi pezzi rinvenuti nel santuario di Afrodite dell'antica polis calabrese. Quattro statuette bronzee votive, scelte per rappresentare i momenti salienti della vita di Kaulonia, il sito archeologico scoperto da Paolo Orsi nel 1912 nei pressi di Punta Stilo

E' stata inaugurata martedì 25 gennaio la mostra dal titolo " Doni per una dea. Kaulonia ", realizzata nella Gipsoteca di Arte Antica di Piazza San Paolo all'Orto . La mostra è stata possibile grazie all'interessamento e alla collaborazione fra l'Università degli Studi di Pisa, per la quale era presente Maria Cecilia Parra, docente Archaeology of Magna Graecia University of Pisa, and Scuola Normale, represented by Carmine Ampolo, Professor of Greek History, both curators of the exhibition. At the opening of the exhibition also Fabio Beltram, director of the Scuola Normale.

The exhibition is installed in the left aisle of the former church of St. Paul Orto and offers the visitor the large explanatory panels on four small but valuable pieces chosen by the excavations in the sanctuary dedicated to Aphrodite. There are four bronze votive statuettes, chosen to represent key moments in the life of Kaulonia, the splendid archaeological site discovered by the famous archeologist Paolo Orsi in 1912 in near Punta Stilo, a town not far from Monasterace, a site where the Scuola Normale Superiore began the study since 1999.

In particular, visitors can see two horses and a small stylized wagon wheel, probably dating from the eighth century ane, the moment when the Greeks touch the shores of what will be the Magna Grecia, laying the groundwork for foundation of the city of Kaulonia, along with other population groups.

Il sindaco Lanzetta vi partecipa con grande entusiasmo, come ci ha confermato il giorno prima della partenza durante il consiglio comunale congiunto di consiglieri senior e giovani dove ha detto: “E' giusto che Monasterace venga conosciuta anche per eventi belli come questo”.

Per l'appunto la Normale di Pisa ormai da anni cura gli scavi per quanto concerne la parte archeologica relativa appunto al tempio.
