Kaulonia: gifts to a goddess

now seems certain that the ancient Ionic temple Kaulonia was dedicated to Aphrodite (Venus), at least as the main deity. Hence the title of this interesting exhibition to be held in Pisa, but unfortunately over the news of the opening, I could not find another, even the duration of the show itself. I hope that the same show will still be repeated in our museum.

curata da M. Cecilia Parra, docente di Archeologia della Magna Grecia all’Università di Pisa
e da Carmine Ampolo, docente di Storia Greca alla Scuola Normale Superiore

L’esposizione presenta un piccolo campione di bronzetti votivi dagli scavi nel santuario di Afrodite a Kaulonia (Monasterace, Reggio Calabria), con corredo di pannelli che illustrano il sito, il santuario, gli ex voto, il restauro e le analisi archeometriche eseguite su alcuni degli oggetti in bronzo.
La presentazione della mostra sarà accompagnata da una lettura di testi poetici greci dell’Antologia Palatina.
Seguirà the delivery of "Giuseppe Nenci 2010 Scholarship Award, sponsored by the winery and Sicilian Donnafugata for young scholars of the history of Western Sicily.
